About us

The non-profit Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation discovers and nurtures talented young artists (Montreux Jazz Talent Awards, Music in the Park, Montreux Jazz Academy) and develops educational projects.

Introduction

The Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation was born of Claude Nobs’ desire to discover new talent, to encourage cultural exchanges, and to create a space dedicated to encounters between the artists and the public. This role as a springboard, so dear to the founder of the Festival, was carried out starting in 2007 by the Fondation Montreux Jazz 2, which generated multiple exchanges, discoveries, and cultural connections throughout the entire Festival period. Renamed the Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation (MJAF) in 2015, the educational wing of the Festival took on a new dimension with the creation of the Montreux Jazz Academy. The MJAF enhanced its mission of forging links by extending its support of young talents to the entire year.

Montreux Jazz Talent Awards

The Montreux Jazz Competitions have become the Montreux Jazz Talent Awards: the Festival’s programmers select the jazz of tomorrow, and each evening introduce a new band or keyboard artist at La Coupole in the House of Jazz.

The Montreux Jazz Talent Awards showcase different ways of imagining virtuosity and jazz in all its forms, blending different cultures and sounds. Demos from 16 artists will be evaluated by an Artists Committee composed of musicians close to the Festival. The artists will then be judged during their live performance by a second jury. Three prizes will be awarded:

• Parmigiani Montreux Jazz Solo Keys Award
• Shure Montreux Jazz Band Award
• Fairmont European Tour Award

Workshops

Intimate and always surprising, the workshops offer privileged access to the Festival artists, who passionately reveal the secrets of their art. The Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation also encourages reflections between science, music, and culture through collaborations with researchers. Programme 2018

Montreux Jazz Academy

Guided by a desire to stimulate exchanges between generations and cultures, and conscious of the challenges faced by young musicians as they make music their life, the Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation wished to further its mission of nurturing emerging talent. This led in 2014 to the MJAF creating the Montreux Jazz Academy: an intensive week-long residential program bringing together young musicians, renowned mentors, and professionals from the world of music.
