Academy 2014

Both a public and private event, the Academy is intended as a fertile breeding-ground for encounters, discoveries and the transmission of knowledge. It supports and accompanies a new generation of artists at a key moment in their musical careers.

From 30 October to 5 November 2014, the 12 young talents selected have played and evolved during an intense week of exchanges with mentors, international musicians and figures from the music business.

In addition to the private sessions reserved for the 12 winners, public sessions have taken place each evening. They have brought together a variety of activities in the heart of the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace: live sessions, jam sessions, conferences, workshops and interactive systems developed by the Lausanne Institute of Technology (EPFL).

After this experience, the young musicians from around the world have performed with their mentors and guest artists at two exceptional closing concerts at the Sylvia Waddlilove Music Centre in Villeneuve on 6 November. All profits went to the Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation to support young talents.

Young Talents 2014

Hailing from all over the world, 12 guitarists, vocalists, and pianists winners of the Montreux Jazz Competitions lived and worked at the Centre Musical Sylvia Waddilove, where they enjoyed a panoply of work sessions, master classes, and moments of close contact with artists and professionals ready and willing to address issues of interest to young musicians.

Some Montreux regulars answered our call and came to provide guidance or just to play. Among them, Charles Lloyd, Tom Kennedy, Makoto Ozone, Sonny Emory and Patti Smith have mentored and all played together with the young talents to concoct two concerts directed by Lee Ritenour at the Centre musical Sylvia Waddilove.
