Academy 2014

Both a public and private event, the Academy is intended as a fertile breeding-ground for encounters, discoveries and the transmission of knowledge. It supports and accompanies a new generation of artists at a key moment in their musical careers.

From 30 October to 5 November 2014, the 12 young talents selected have played and evolved during an intense week of exchanges with mentors, international musicians and figures from the music business.

In addition to the private sessions reserved for the 12 winners, public sessions have taken place each evening. They have brought together a variety of activities in the heart of the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace: live sessions, jam sessions, conferences, workshops and interactive systems developed by the Lausanne Institute of Technology (EPFL).

After this experience, the young musicians from around the world have performed with their mentors and guest artists at two exceptional closing concerts at the Sylvia Waddlilove Music Centre in Villeneuve on 6 November. All profits went to the Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation to support young talents.

The second edition of the Academy wrapped on Sunday night. The daily sounds of practicing are still resonating in the hallways of the Centre Musical Sylvia Waddilove. The ten talented young participants are on the way back to their individual musical destinies, enriched, and even transformed, by the incredible array of exchanges they have experienced.
